Update!

Hey there everyone, I know I haven’t blogged in quite a while (a real blog at least) so I hope this one makes up for the lack.

Firstly, I was really thinking about switching over to Tumblr over the past few weeks. My contemplations started when I saw that Anthony was using this mini blogging (?… I’m not sure what Tumblr falls under really) system to power his website. I was just about to link the good ol’ URL up to the Tumblr system when I realized a flaw in my plans – what would happen to my old blog posts? And here we are, still with Wordpress, not to mention still unable to update to the newest version do the my laziness to overcome the mySQL issue.

Still, it’s not the end of the world. I’d rather drag along this blog that’s filled with my memories.

A few weekends ago I went to regionals for FBLA. (State in April!… And hopefully nationals after that. :) Maybe I’ll see some of you webbies there?) Everything went fairly well until my partner and I realized that our laptop – woe and behold the school issued piece of junk was… a piece of junk – would not connect to the site. (Since we were in a website development competition… this posed to be quite the dilemma.) I had voiced my concerns earlier when the school techies set me up for off-site use, however, they apparently assumed that I would only need to access websites within my school’s network. In other words, I could view the current available job positions being offered in my school, but besides that, nothing. Thankfully, another group allowed us to borrow their laptop. (Not without grumblings from one of the pair…) Long story short, the day ended well as I added another first-place medal to the collection. Three years in a row. Excuse my ego.

Well, I hope everyone is having a good 2010 so far (:

I plan on finally producing t-shirts within the next month or so, but for now, go check out the goodies I have over at Shanalogic.com!

Big plans ahead!

So it has been semi decided that I will be packing up my bags and moving to Pennsylvania at the end of this current school year. And where in Pennsylvania you ask? Well, here’s a hint – I will never have a lack of chocolate again. Ever.

Not that I’m a huge fan of chocolate, but hey, at least I can start telling people, “Oh, I’m from Hershey”… And I can dress up like a humongous chocolate bar without getting weird stares. I’m probably over-stereotyping the situation here, but that’s exactly what I did before I moved to Texas 5-6 years ago. I kid you not, my friends and I thought I would be going to the “hillbilly” state. (Although, now that I think of it, Iowa was more of a hillbilly state…go figure.) I’m actually quite excited for the move at this point. I’ve always been one to try new things, and I find a completely changed lifestyle exciting. But then again, I’ll probably be crying like a little kid the day I leave this ridiculously bi-polar weather hating state. For now, I’m just going to focus on the present – have fun, create memories, and keep a smile on my face when I finally have to say goodbye.

2010 resolutions :)

Since resolution-type blogs have been sprouting up everywhere, I’ve decided to put up my own goals for this what Susan Miller (my favorite astrologist) predicts to be my best year ever. Yay Pisces ~

  1. Get good grades… easier said than done, but I’ll try my best.
  2. Keep organized! I’ve spent this past week cleaning and cleaning… organization is key to success, after all
  3. Try and update the blog at least twice a month. I admit I’ve been pretty lousy at blogging lately, but it just seems like I have barely any time at all anymore.
  4. Update the shop as much as possible with new products and goodies! – Finally get that new tote bag design printed… t-shirts too… I’ve just been having issues with selecting the brand of t-shirt to print them on.
  5. Stress less!! – hahaha…
  6. Keep focused in all my goals/projects/life in general. I’ve wasted way too much time last year pondering about ‘what ifs’.
  7. Make new friends. (Might be moving soon? *fingers crossed*)
  8. Be less greedy. Heh
  9. Be a nicer person in general… I have my mood swings sometimes ):
  10. Reply to emails! I have over 200 unread emails just sitting in my inbox. Sorry everyone!
  11. Get better at coding… especially PHP and JAVA / MySQL
  12. Stop fantasizing about random things… My brain is too cluttered with all the dramas I’ve watched.
  13. Volunteer more & contribute more to my community
  14. Have a better social life
  15. Start putting together my portfolio for college

Well, that’s all I can think of at this time. I hope everyone will have a wonderful new year! See you all in 2010!

I never though I’d say this but…

Wordpress is really getting on my nerves. Firstly, I really find it annoying that WP 2.9 requires mySql 4.1.2 or higher in order to be upgrades/installed. Okay, for the developer-coding-gurus out there, this may have been a piece of cake for you, but I am not one of your kind. I design, I try not to think about the finer details of things. And so, after about four hours trying to upgrade my databases, mainly trying to import my already exported tables… I gave up. Version 2.9 can’t be that great… honestly speaking, I don’t think I could find a use for the new features such as image cropping. As intriguing as that sounds, I’d rather stick with photoshop. Secondly, after my failure at updating and decision to stick with good ol’ WP 2.8, I am really getting fed up with the nag reminder that the development team feels the need to put up near my header. Yes yes, I know there is a plugin that gets rid of that nasty thing, but apparently it hasn’t been developed for WP 2.8.2. I guess that since all of the smart people have stopped listening to wordpress ages ago, the creator of this plugin deemed it unnecessary to undergo further development.

Anyways, I’m content with my current blog, and will use the time that I do have to work on it to… well, blog, update, and add some new content.

Besides this annoying little bump in my so far pleasant winter break, I’ve been doing major amounts of cleaning. I think I would consider myself a sort of packrat, for some odd reason, I can’t bring myself to throw things away. Something in the back of my head is always nagging at me that the desert biome project from 3rd grade will someday come in handy. So, before I chucked these memories in the garbage, I thought I’d take some pictures and share them with you guys.
