Gobble Gobble
In the spirit of Turkey Day, I’ve decided to try my hardest and cough up some new site layouts . I don’t think its the inspiration that I’m lacking, but the patience to sit in front of a computer for hours on end trying to validate my work. Yes, I tend to somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to the site, which inevitably slows down the production of new and original content. Nevertheless, get ready for some web 2.0 style layouts that should be done around Wednesday.
Surprisingly enough, I found myself waking up at 6:00am today, to my oh-so generic cell phone alarm. After stumbling around in the darkness, and nearly missing stepping on my laptop, I dressed in Eskimo ware due to the freezing weather outside. Sadly, coming from the wonderful state of Iowa, I thought I could handle the cold weather of Texas easily enough with only a puffy jacket and matching scarf. Of course, I was wrong. And for the rest of the day, I would be regretting not putting on more layers. The reason for dragging myself outdoors on this cold morning was the 40th annual Turkey Trot held in downtown Dallas. My buddy, Janet and I, had signed up to volunteer for some much needed NJHS hours- at the refreshment stand. Much to our surprise however, we ended up staring at a mountain of crates containing…
BANANAS.
Oh yes, over 50 crates of overly ripe and sweaty bananas were waiting to be broken up and set out on 8 long tables for runners to grab and eat. No offense to banana lovers out there, but personally, I’d feel sick just looking at a banana after a race. Not that I would be running anytime soon… except maybe during Black Friday. This would have been an easy task to accomplish if not for the fact that my fingers were numb and wobbly at that point, not to mention my toes. Thankfully Janet lent me one of her fuzzy pink gloves, which probably smells like old banana peels by now. :T I estimate that today, I’ve touched a total of over 300 bananas. Right now, anything yellow sort of makes me sick.
Now, you may have noticed that there have been ads appearing around the site. These are to help pay for hosting costs and other bills that need to be taken care of. Technically, I’m not allowed to tell visitors to click on them, but well, why would you not want to help me out? On a final note, I wanted to know how many visitors out there would be interested in a referral or layout contest here at rooeh.net. I’ve been sketching the rules out, but they’re not near finished yet. All I know is that the winner will recieve a custom illustration from me. Please let me know if you’re interested in joining!
