Wow. First of all, yesterday was an absolutely chaotic day filled with many interesting things that I could blog about. But if I were to do that, I’d have to sit here for hours on end recalling all the funny details. For the sake of you readers out there, I will keep it brief and write only some of the main events that were especially mind boggling.
The day started off with a marathon around the house while I tried to get ready in time for dear, sweet, punctual Ishita to arrive. I think I’ve been spoiled way too often by friends who know what it is to be fashionably late. This is why I was horrified when I saw my buddy walking up the sidewalk whilst I was still in my bunny pajamas. But thankfully, if there is something Ishita doesn’t lack, it is patience. Together, after I brushed and ripped out a chunk of my hair in my haste, we got in the car and drove to the Dart station. If anyone remembers my past blog about my horrible, scarring experience on the Dart before, you will understand my unease as we got closer and closer to the station. The plan was to meet the rest of my school at 8:30am so that we could all be in time for the train to carry us off to downtown Dallas where we would join the rest of the marchers. In case anyone was wondering, March for respect is dedicated to the hundreds of thousands of citizens living with developmental disabilities.
I have to count my blessings that I managed to get in a cart with Ham, who always backs me up on some of my crazy theories. I say this because a sudden burst of ingeniousness hit me right after the train started. To avoid falling over due to the unevenness of the ride, doesn’t one just have to jump at the right time and miss the swerve? With my limited knowledge of physics, I was confident that my theory would save me from falling on my hindquarters, an experience I didn’t want to relive anytime soon. Although the only drawback was that the only way to test this theory was to jump continuously until the train swerved. So I did have a very good excuse for my behavior as I started jumping like a jackrabbit on a greased up frying pan in the middle of July. Sadly, my attempts were futile and in the end Ham made me come to my senses. Because of my time limit and pressure to finish some troublesome homework, I will have to skip the ridiculously embarrassing account of my attempts to imitate various bird calls. Lets just say that in the end, we all decided that I was a failure at this skill.
Next up, after traveling to the parking lot filled with balloons and booths of all sorts, we lined up to sign in for the March. I was already filled with energy from the pound of sugar I had in the morning and was pumped to start exploring. Here is when I saw the giant inflated Dr. Pepper can and the line of tall, athletic looking guys trying their hand at throwing a football into the opening of the can. Being overconfident, as one is when filled to the brim with energy, I dashed to the booth with Ishita and Carson in tow. Disappointingly, my two friends were very unenthusiastic about my chances of winning, which made me want to throw that football into the can even more- to rub it in their faces of course. Needless to say that the ball flew in with my first toss, and I was able to brag about my victory all day long.
After an hour or so of walking around and chatting with my buddies, the March for respect finally began. Together with a huge throng of people, we walked about 8 blocks while cheering and waving around balloons, banners, and flashy things of that sort showing our support. It was a very nice experience, walking the streets of downtown, where we saw many ads for shiny cars and one particularity shady looking donut shop that had bars on the windows.
Overall yesterday was one incredibly fun filled day. I just hope that we didn’t all forget the deep meaning of what we participated in.
Please note that these images were taken with my cellphone since I was stupid enough/ inconsiderate enough/ lazy enough to not bring my camera.

I’m sorry to say that I don’t have any major updates this week except that I finally upgraded the site to WP 2.5. I must say that I am impressed with the improvements the WP developers have made to this already excellent blogging script.

This is a just a short blog dedicated to one of cutest and well animated movies out there- Tonari no Totoro, or in the language we’re most familiar with, My Neighbor Totoro. To the left is a quick project for school that proudly shows my sad obsession with the cute forest spirit. (Which I didn’t really even know until Wikipedia- The almighty internet encyclopedia- informed me of my naiveness.) Usually, I frown on using pictures that either I have not created or taken myself, but since time was limited, I decided to let it slide this time around. All stock images from sxc.hu- an awesome resource site, and other bits and bobs from google images, since I can’t remember the exact source.

If a random stranger walked up to me one day and asked, “What is your number one fear?” Not very likely, I know, but hey, it serves my point. I would respond immediately with the fact that I am utterly afraid to exercise. Maybe it’s my atychiphobia, fear of failure, or maybe its because I am downright lazy and would rather sit at home eating cake. This is why I was extremely unpleased when my dear, sweet, persistently annoying friend Ham decided to drag me to the gym with her. And on top of that, I was already sore from my 30 minute walk, back and forth, to the Edenbrooke retirement home earlier that morning. Mind, it would take a normal person 18 minutes tops.
Being uncharacteristically optimistic, I walked into unknown territory with high hopes of relieving some of my anger with a nice, friendly game of badminton. :annoyed: I can proudly say that this is probably the only sport, if it can even be called a sport, that I am actually quite good at. Sure, it meant I had to run a tad to whack the ball at my incredibly tiny opponent… with her muscles… but it surely was worth it. Afterwards, we decided to try out the cycles, or whatever is the proper term for the stationary bikes you pedal on. For a few minutes I amused myself with the fan attached to the front of the bike’s dashboard, thinking of the wide open roads I’d often go riding down back in good ol’ Iowa. Ah, that wide stretch of smooth earth where one can close her eyes and enjoy the breeze without the risk of peddling into a lamppost and getting a face full of asphalt. All in all, I don’t regret being bullied to go and stretch my wiggly legs, but the pain in the morning isn’t something that’s rocking my boat.

I hope some of you have noticed the massive updates I’ve made during this past week. For example, I’ve finally added some stock vectors, a few new glossy webcons, one new abstract vector wallpaper, a new category of pixel clocks, a new section of easy to install wordpress calendars, and last but not least, those wordpress themes I’ve been promising for so long. Tell me what you think!

It was to my great surprise to find my nap rudely awakened by the screeching voice of two furious senior high students on the gloomy bus. After a few seconds of blinking and looking around to see where the noise was coming from, it was soon evident to my knowledge that my friends and I were trapped in the middle of a heated cat fight. Apparently the fight had begun with a few accusations of “What’d you say about my mama?” and “**** *** *****…”, I’ll leave out the other unpleasant language. The next thing we knew, one girl was on top of the other girl, seemingly strangling her, and the other one was screaming while trying to push off her assaulter. Throughout all of this violence, the other students on the bus tried to avoid this scene even though several curious eyes kept straying back to the commotion. The bus driver, however, took action and picked up radio and spoke in broken, heavily accented English, “There is a fight on the bus, please send police!” If there is one thing that I’ve learned from this experience, it is that the most important piece of information that you can give the police is your location, which can cut down their arrival time at least by 10 minutes. It was during the 20-25 minute wait that the fighting finally died down, leaving one girl heaving and shaking on a seat with a bloody lip, and the other girl trying to get out the back through the emergency door.
The rest of the day went by as the police came speeding down the quiet neighborhood with the ambulance in tow. We all felt sorry for the residents who came walking by, curious of what had happened. Especially for one six year old boy who stared googly eyed at the whole scene as he passed back and forth on the nearby sidewalk. Hopefully we did not scar his bright, enthusiastic view of the educational road that would await him in the following years. :annoyed:

Since spring break has started, I’ll have plenty of time to update some loose nails here and there. So, hopefully I can have the new layouts I’ve wanted to put up for a while… and was too lazy to.

Honestly, when I first moved to Texas, I did not expect to be pelted by mini snow ice balls during March. According to my mental calendar, March through May= Spring, and in Spring, it doesn’t snow… or well, whatever you’d like to call the icy, slushy white stuff Dallas received this past week. Even after everyone suffered trudging through the slush, the weather wasn’t even considerate enough to stay long enough to allow a snow day. It is such a pity that my school district is so stingy with its days off.

A few new doodle icons have been added as well as some new abstract wallpapers. I hope everyone likes this new template of the site, and if you don’t, I plan on having a theme switcher up soon.
